VW Split Window Volksrod

so here is the rundown of where the volksrod is & where it's headed.
the body is done except for the trim, ligts, mirrors etc...
( normals are all done , but still needs damaged parts )
interior is done minus seats, shifter, & door handles / window cranks.
i'm leaving the pan bare ( no carpet ) so the body remap can have an alpha ( to put rust holes in the floor )
still needs all the suspension....
i'm not sure what i want to do with the wheels & the seats yet...any ideas ?





here is the engine.
> 2110cc
> high flow billet style heads
> dual 48IDA weber carbs with hex bar linkage & velocity stacks
> porsche style fan housing / alternator combo
> 2.5" ceramic coated merged exhaust with stinger
> late model type-1 IRS transaxle

al in all, a pretty nice street engine
( not exactly the norm for a volksrod, but who cares )

( a speedshop logo on the door, light rust, & bare welds where the top is chopped )

yeah, it's strange how popular the old Käfer is, yet there arent very many HQ mods of it.
( hell, any of the old stuff, for that matter. )

are left hand drive VWs worth way more there ?
right hand drive is so rare here, it adds like 20% to the value.

here's my ride.... '72 super, before i tore it apart AGAIN.
now its running an 1835cc, single downdraft 44IDF weber, ported heads,
double capacity oil system with external filter & 2 coolers,
all aluminum porsche 944 turbo suspension & brakes, brembo calipers, full cage,
18" kinesis 3 piece wheels, custom machined drop struts & spindles,
pistol grip short shifter with reverse lockout, full custom STEEL dash
( smoothed with dual gauge ports for speedo & tach )
+ way too many body mods to count.

it's crated up right now, but i'll have some current pix after i move

nice beetle it really suprises me the speed you can get out of them when there tuned ive seen a beetle beat a new ferrari down the quatermile leftr handrive vws are more expensive mainly because they have been imported from the dry states in america so theres no rust or there not rotten all the way through which happens alot in the uk if you leave a car sat for a few years outside they rot really fast and the british laws are really strict on safty like you couldnt drive it with holes in the floorpan or body alot of people do go over to germany to buy them and drive them back not sure why never made much sence to me if your gonna buy aleft handrive might as well get one from calafonia or something but they are worth stupid money at the moment old vws gone up in price loads in the last 5 years like i payed 5000 for my westfailia now its worth a bout 14000 crazy really

yeah i can make the textuers i was thinking like a black faded paint with slight rust with the iron cross on it would look good as well as for the gear stick(shifter) perhaps something with a skull on or the t shaped one would look good as well

so now it's going to be something i can take to the track.

i've seen some pretty fast turbo bugs, but nothing that fast
( unless it has a V8 conversion )

yeah, good point... the VWs here are super solid & there is no shortage of them.
hell, the VW plant in mexico still makes the old beetle....how crazy is that ?
it's weird seeing hundreds of them on the street being used as taxis.
( sad that it's so hard to have one imported though )

yeah, thats pretty much what i had in mindfor the texture....maybe with some bullet holes too...something.
havent really put much thought into it yet though, mainly focused on the model itself right now.
already did a skull shift knob on my model-T & the "T" handle shifter is boring....
was thinking either a wood pistol grip, or maybe a pineapple grenade.

UPDATE :
finished suspension, front AND rear....
i went with a "drop beam" girter up front....it just looks better than a flipped tortion bar VW beam.

also trying out a new wheel ( it's a modified version of one of my model-T wheels )
let me know what you think.....
i might throw your (hippypunk's) wide 5 , no hubcap wheel on there just to see if it looks good.
i have a feeling i'll want to use your wheel ( once i see it on the car ), if that's ok.

yeah you can use my wheels i dont mind i have some new ones now tho that you might prefur to use on it

looks like your new ones have a new texture & tall tire diameter.
imma throw the old ones on there & see how they look.
( will probably add a whitewall & do a tall tire in the rear...so your new tall tire model wont work )

i've been adding alot of very small details like trim, emblems, engine tin, ignition system, nuts & bolts...etc.....
so i dont have a screen today.....once all the trim is done, i'll add another pic

yeah i plan to put a smaller tire on the front and leave a taller tire on the back ive sjut got a beta virsion of the new photoshop so ive been playing a round with that recently got some more rusty textuers to come soon

hey, what do ya think of these horn buttons ?
i like the bremen key with the matching hood crest.
i think it would look better than the golden lady & a wolfsburg or berlin hood crest.
but the sun & moon would also go well with a multicolor wolfsburg.

what program do you use to map the txtuers

agreed, i'll run with it then. i think the VW guys & gals will get a kick out of it too

well, beleive it or not, MS paint is the most useful program ever....
but i use Nero Photosnap Image Editor ( v 1.1.0.1 ) for alot of stuff also.
changing exposure / colors / inverting / creating alphas / & a bunch of other effects.
it's not as good as photoshop, but it was free & i've been using it for many years, so it's easy.
i also use Brush Strokes ( v1.01 ), it's an antique & kind of a pain in the ass, but it's usefull for blending & fine tuning ( also free )

i found a wicked rare KDF hubcap i think i want to run, but i have a feeling it might piss people off.......



it would be full 3D & the raised part would match the rim color.



........or, logo matches [prim] or [3rd] & rim & hub matches sec color....not sure yet. i gotta play with it.

yeah the old kdf wagon logo yeah it might offend some people who acoicate he car with being a nazi symbol then again the iron cross that alot of people have on old vws is a german army logo as well i actuly like the old kdf logo im not racist at all im far from it ive been on alot of anti facist protests and things if you did go with them you might have to explain in the read me folder

well, the iron cross has went through this weird metamorphosys....
the swastika is a whole other story.

i feel the same way, i do what i can to educate people about facism, racism, & biggotry...
so it's like this weird mental tug-of-war trying to balance my <3 of VWs, & artistic freedom, with equal opprotunity hatred of all humanity.
i was thinking of putting a note in the read me....not sure what i'd say though.

it dint take TOO long, but just planning the logistics & making it look right was fuckin hard.

( you might notice the number of teeth on the gear is different, that was just to simplify the math )

yeah i no what you meen i feel the same too a bout my love of vws and facism yeah its tunred out real nice yeah i would go with it its suits the time the car would have come from if you dont use it your gonns have to send it to me so i can put i can use it on ne of my vans i ahvent really done much recently as ive been fucking a bout with gta 4 at the moment thinking a bout converting one of my to gta 4 i really love the beetle cant wait to see it in game ive started on a texture for it ill uploads some pictuers tommorow

looks like the damage would be hard to set up.

as you can see, the mesh is very close to being done.

cheers for the hubcap yeah its loooking realy good now ill have the texture done later im not at home at the minite but ill download it when i get home gta 4 the damage isnt hard to set up its done by a seperate mesh that the game engine creates the damage itsself depending on how hard you crash and things like that

no problem.
when it's all done, i'll hook you up with an unlocked model....
strip it for parts, customize it, convert it to gta4, whatever.
it'll be a while before i mess with 4 , will probably just skip to 5.

UPDATE : i'm down to all the tedious shit now ( i hate this part :/ )
not that it's hard, it's just not interesting nor creative, so i procrastinate XD

ill sort that texture out at the weekend i vompletely lsot the one i made so im gonna make a new one at the weekend sjut had laods of shit to do recently been really busy shouldnt be long now tho

i hate when that happens....there used to be a way to restore stuff like that on win XP, but it looks like win7 only restores single files after creating a restore point or something. grrr.

yeah, i hear ya....i'm pretty swamped right now too. no rush.

after a few hours of tuning, here is the current ingame beta.
there is still many hours of work ahead of me, but as you can see, it's going to turn out very nice

yeah i saved over it which is a fucking pain yeah windows 7 does my head in sometimes doing that ive jsut jioned a new band as well so alot of my time is trying to learn polish at the minitre since the rest of the band are polish and they want me to do some backing volcals on a few tracks also i dont have a job at the minite so ive been trying to figure out what to sell to make money and shit like that

that sucks a bag of dicks. i was really looking foward to seeing it.
i've gotten in the habbit of making backups ( usually way too many ) since the first time my GTA crashed, i swore i wouldnt be stuck without a backup again.
